At the initial level this paper seeks to establish some of the analysis of existential constructions in Irish and by so doing to contribute to the comparative typology of existential constructions.
At a second and slightly more ambitious level, it tries to use those initial results to engage some of the issues (semantic and syntactic) that have shaped the attempt to understand existential constructions more generally.
