Welcome to the website of Jim McCloskey, Research Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California Santa Cruz. I am a syntactician with research interests both at the syntax-semantics interface and at the syntax-phonology interface. These threads come together in an old preoccupation with the phenomenon of ellipsis, reflected in my participation in the Santa Cruz Ellipsis Project. I work on the Irish language, but also on varieties of nonstandard English and on a range of other topics.
